KCD earns Outstanding Delegation Award and more at KUNA 

Seventy-six Upper School students participated in KUNA (the Kentucky United Nations Assembly) from March 6-8 at the Crowne Plaza in Louisville.
KUNA is a 3-day, experiential-learning conference in which students participate directly in simulated international diplomacy. KUNA offers students the opportunity to experience the richness of cultures from around the world, develop empathy, and hone their critical thinking skills while engaging with a wide variety of perspectives and global issues.

This year, KCD won the Outstanding Delegation Award for “having the overall highest quality of participation, level of preparedness, and behavior exemplifying the Y’s four core values and culture.” 

Our Bearcats also received a Premier Delegation designation, an award for the biggest delegation, and many impressive individual achievements:
  • Shaan Bains ’25 was elected Secretary General of KUNA next year 
  • Ally Schulz ’24 was awarded Outstanding Ambassador from KCD
  • Emily Lynch ’25 was chosen for the International Court of Justice Showcase and her team won
  • Anya Sharma ’24 served as President of the Security Council
  • KCD had the most resolutions of any school! Students wrote resolutions for Fiji (Byrd Saylor ’24, Matthew Burns ’24, Adeem Gill ’24, and Symone Jackson ’24), Turkey (Yunis Kutmah ’25, Dania Zayed ’25, and Raya Attallah ’27), the USA (Naya Singal ’25, Aya Alnabhan ’25, Shiza Rana ’26, and Aysha Aljijakli ’26), Japan (Lainey Terlau ’26, Sarah Vibbert ’26, Peter Zhang ’26, and Evan Smith ’26), and Pakistan (Ammar Mayel ’26, Daniyal Khan ’26, Asad Nasir ’26, Abdul Draw ’26).
  • Our resolution for Turkey (written by Yunis, Dania, and Raya) won the Secretary General’s endorsement award 
  • ALL of our resolutions were so well-written and argued that KCD won the award for Outstanding Resolution Packet 
  • Parker Price ’24 and Lorelai Anne ’24 oversaw debate as Committee Chairs. They co-chaired a ranking committee and did such a great job instructing the students in debate that they moved on to voting committees as well (Parker as VP and Lorelai as Clerk)
  • KCD’s international stage performance (a Bhangra dance for Pakistan) received a standing ovation
