Social-Emotional Support & Counseling

The social and emotional well-being of students is incredibly important to their overall development and success.  At KCD we recognize the importance of developing healthy social-emotional skills and incorporate Yale’s RULER curriculum into daily life on campus.

Each of the three divisions at KCD has a dedicated counselor who helps students and families navigate emotional needs, teaches classroom lessons, and supports positive personal and social development. Counselors are available to meet with students individually or in small groups for short-term counseling goals.  The counseling and support team at KCD has developed close connections with providers in the Louisville community to provide consistency in communication and care for students receiving services outside of school and for students with longer-term counseling needs.  Our students love having our honorary counseling dog, a pug named Pepper, on campus most days as well.
