Structure of KCD’s Board of Trustees

Our Board of Trustees is made up of parents, parents of alumni, grandparents, guardians, alumni, and others with strong ties to the KCD community who support the school’s mission as encapsulated by the KCD motto: Citizen, Scholar, Steward.

The Board of Trustees features no fewer than 15 and no more than 25 Trustees at one time, each serving three year terms with a one-time term renewal option. The current leader of the Alumni Association and the current leader of the Parent Association each serve as Ex-Officio Trustees. One Trustee is elected to serve as the Board Chair for a two-year term.

Trustees are assigned to at least one of five standing (or permanent) committees that include; Audit, Development, Finance, Governance, and Strategic Planning. At the discretion of the Board Chair and with approval of the Executive Committee, there are times when non-Trustees may sit on Board Committees as non-voting members.

The Executive Committee is made up of the Board Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer of the Board of Trustees, alongside the Chair of each Committee and up to two additional Trustees at the Board Chair’s discretion.

Role(s) of Trustees

The NAIS Principles of Good Practice for Boards of Trustees outlines the role of the Board as a whole while the NAIS Principles of Good Practice for Individual Independent School Trustees outlines expectations for each Trustee.

KCD Trustees are specifically expected to:

Regularly attend full Board and assigned Committee meetings
Prepare for and participate in Board-related discussion and decisions
Understand that the role of a Trustee does not include advising on the day-to-day operations of the school, but instead focuses on strategic initiatives and long-term success of the school
Meet an annual financial commitment
Keep Board matters confidential and avoid conflicts of interest
Act as an ambassador of the school to both the KCD community and the community at large

2025-26 KCD Board of Trustees

Adam Arrington, Treasurer: Adam is a graduate of the KCD class of 1998 and is married to Lee Heffner ’01.

Bonita K. Black: Bonita and her husband, Ray Rivera, are the parents of KCD graduate Scotty ’23 and Leland.

Chris Brice, Chair: Chris and his wife, Sarah ’79, are the parents of KCD graduates Lilly ’16 and Wilder ’18.

Rachel Caudill, Parent Association President: Rachel and her husband Chris are the parents of Savion, Shepherd ’27, Sebby ’30, and Audi ’30, and KCD graduates Abby ’22 and Aspen ’24.

Dr. Swapna Chandran: Swapna and her husband Manoj are the parents of Gopal ’27, Shanti ’29, and Sanjay ’34.

Nicole Coffey, Governance Chair: Nicole Staffieri Coffey is a graduate of the KCD class of 1999. She and her husband, Tom, are the parents of Rocco ’29, Marianna ’32, and Vito ’36.

Ross Cohen: Ross and his wife, Shannon, are the parents of Elin ’33 and Mallory ’35.

Preston Copley, Development Chair: Preston is a graduate of the KCD class of 2003. He and his wife, Jaime, are the parents of Cameron ’34 and Emerson ’38.

Karen Crain: Karen and her husband, Jimmy, are the parents of KCD graduates Mary-Louise ’25 and Bennett ’21.

Tom Crockett: Tom is a graduate of the KCD class of 1984. He and his wife, Cindy, are the parents of George ’26 and KCD graduates Ann ’21 and William ’23.

Charlie Farnsley, Alumni Association Representative: Charlie is a graduate of the KCD class of 2004. He and his wife, Mindy, are the parents of Piper ’38, Ellie ’36, Lucy ’33, and KCD graduate Kaylee ’23.

Lorena Haith: Lorena and her husband, Jason, are the parents of David ’29.

Debbie Houston: Debbie and her husband, Bill (BI), are the grandparents of Houston O’Brien ’31 and James Houston ’32.

Dan Huneke, Secretary: Dan is a graduate of the KCD class of 1976 and is married to Lauren Theobald. Dan is the parent of KCD graduates Cordt Huneke ’01, Chase Huneke ’04, Kelli Van Hecke ’12, and Amelia Huneke ’12.

David Monaco: David is a graduate of the KCD class of 1985 and is married to Mollie Young Monaco, class of 1989. Dave’s father, Tom Monaco, served as KCD’s Athletic Director and then Head of Upper School in the 1980s.

Dr. Guru Pattar: Guru and his wife, Kiley, are the parents of Mira ’33, Nori ’35, and Simi.

Seema Singal, Vice Chair & Strategic Planning Chair: Seema and her husband, Inder, are the parents of KCD graduates Naya ’25 and Avani ’23.

Adam Stemle, Finance Chair: Adam and his wife, Lindsey, are parents of Harper ’28 and Lennon.

Rama Tamimi Alsoufi: Rama and her husband, Baha Alsoufi, are the parents of Dana ’29, Shaza ’30, and KCD graduates Rana ’20 and May ’22.

Rip Tilden: Rip and his wife, Beth, are the grandparents of Humza Tiwana ’30, Zahra Tiwana ’32, and Aiza Tiwana ’37.

Neal Thomas, Audit Chair: Neal and his wife, Yana, are the parents of Lennon ’36 and KCD graduate Ethan ’25.

Dr. Dawn Wade: Dawn and her husband, Stacey, are the parents of Carter ’34.
