  • Merit Scholars Program

    KCD Merit Scholarships are prestigious awards that help reduce tuition costs for gifted, talented, and motivated students entering grades 6 and 9. These scholarships are awarded based solely on merit and are independent of financial need. Academic achievement, extracurricular participation, and strong citizenship are factors in the selection process.

    Merit Scholarship applications for current KCD students are due December 7, 2020.  

    Testing days - 5th grade, Thursday, December 10, 2020
                           8th grade, Friday, December 11, 2020

    Students will need a charged Chromebook and will take the testing remotely from their homes. No calculators will be allowed.

    Merit Scholarship applications for new students are due January 8, 2021.  Admission testing for new students will be on Saturday, January 9, 2021.  The Admission Test will serve as one of the deciding factors when the committee reviews Merit Scholarship applications.
    Application Requirements
    • Students entering grades 6 and 9 are eligible for KCD Merit Scholarships after filling out an appropriate Merit Scholarship application.
    • Complete the early decision admission application process.
    • Possess and show the desire and drive to educate themselves to the very best of their ability.
    • Demonstrate exemplary citizenship in accordance with our core values
    • Applicants must test at KCD in order to be considered.

  • Malone Scholars Program

    KCD is the only school in Kentucky to be recognized as a Malone partner school by the Malone Family Foundation. The foundation endowed a $2 million fund to create the Malone Scholarship Program, which provides scholarships to help academically gifted and talented students attend KCD’s Middle and Upper Schools.

    A Malone Scholarship covers up to the full cost of expressed need and some related expenses for each year that the Malone Scholar is enrolled at KCD and meets academic expectations, demonstrates continued good citizenship and character, and continues to qualify for need-based financial aid.

    Application Requirements
    • Entering grades 7–12
    • Top 5% of class
    • Score in 90th percentile or above on standardized testing
    • Have the desire and drive to educate themselves to the very best of their ability
    • Have demonstrated exemplary citizenship in accordance with our core values
    • Demonstrated financial need for 30% tuition assistance or greater
    Benefits & Stipulations
    • Must receive scholarship funding exclusively from the Malone Scholarship program
    • The program will fund the student to the extent of financial aid requirements (based on demonstrated need each year at KCD)
    • Includes books, laptop, testing fees, competition fees, college applications, summer courses on KCD’s campus, extracurricular needs, funding for college visits by the student and parent(s) for up to 110% of each year’s tuition
    • All decisions of funding are determined by KCD
    • Recipients remain Malone Scholars throughout their secondary school years. Only in the event that a student’s academic progress has deteriorated for an extended time will his or her eligibility for the Malone Scholarship be reconsidered.
    How to Apply
    • Complete the online Malone Scholarship application, due January 8, 2020.
    • Complete the early decision admission application process, including Admission testing on January 9, 2021.
    • Write a 1–2 page essay answering one of the following questions:
      - Describe an individual in your life who has benefited from a positive academic experience or who has encouraged you to have a love of learning.
      - Describe a significant interest or experience that has a special meaning for you.
      - Evaluate a significant experience, risk you have taken, or ethical dilemma you have faced and its impact on you.

  • Kircik Family Scholarship

    This scholarship is awarded based on merit and financial need with a focus on students who display talent and interest in the sciences. The scholarship is renewable and will fund 100% of demonstrated need. The Kircik Scholar will maintain the scholarship for the duration of their successful studies and financial aid qualifications at KCD.

    • Strong academic record
    • Desire and drive in the sciences
    • Demonstrated financial need
  • Lowry Watkins Jr.  Scholarship

    The Watkins Scholarship is based on merit and financial need and will fund 100% of demonstrated financial need. The Lowry Watkins Jr. Scholar will maintain the scholarship for the duration of his or her successful studies and financial aid qualifications at KCD. 

    Application Requirements
    • Entering grades 7–12
    • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
    • Native and resident of Kentucky
