New mobile designed and created by Alex Thompson ’23 installed in KCD Library

Alex Thompson ’23 designed and created a beautiful 8-foot wide mobile in his Advanced Photo (III) class as a part of his work toward KCD’s STEAM Certificate.
The piece is made of painted heat-shaped acrylic panels and metal/cable suspensions. It is supported by a metal hanging rod that Alex designed and fabricated through a bending and welding process.

As with all kinetic sculpture, this piece provides the viewer with an endless combination of visual compositions and vantage points.

The piece was installed over the Robertson Library’s story pit by KCD’s amazing maintenance staff on Tuesday, May 16. Congratulations—and THANK YOU—to Alex for his work on this special addition to the creative works on display at KCD.
