You may be familiar with the popular Breakout games, where players work together to solve a series of puzzles in order to ‘escape’ from various scenarios. An educational version, called Breakout EDU, is becoming popular in schools and has been used by several teachers at KCD.
Recently, students in Sarah Shartzer’s Algebra 1 class played a modified version of a Breakout EDU game as a review of the class’s equations unit. Students worked in small teams to solve equations, puzzles, riddles, and other clues that would help them to discover the location of the final prize. This activity was a great way of facilitating collaboration and critical thinking.
