Over December 3–5, a group of KCD students participated in the annual Kentucky Youth Assembly, a mock state legislature designed to foster leadership and civic engagement in young people. In addition to several individual honors, the KCD delegation as a whole earned three awards.
KCD was named a Delegation of Excellence for having 100% voter turnout for KYA elections and being respectful at all times. We were also named as a Chapter of Distinction, the highest level of service awarded to a school by the KYYMCA. Finally, our delegation received the Conference Life Award, which is presented to the group that most positively contributes to the overall atmosphere of the conference. This is one of the three highest honors a delegation can win at a conference. With this award, KCD has now won all three highest honors presented at the conference: Statesmanship Award, Conference Life Award, and Outstanding Delegation Award. KCD has won these three awards in the past two years alone. We are tremendously proud of this group of engaged young citizens!
