Fourth grade math students in Becky Kennedy’s class are learning about the principles of flight. Students designed paper airplanes and are implementing a number of flight tests with them, looking to measure best designs for distance, accuracy, and carrying a load. All of the test flights are used to collect and graph data in order to readjust the designs to create a more efficient plane. Students are using tally charts, stem and leaf plots, and bar graphs, among other tools, to find mean, mode, median, and range. The math students have enjoyed this hands-on activity!
