Spain trip boosts language skills, cultural awareness

Over Winter Break, nine Spanish students visited Spain with Sra. Enseñat and Bobby Copley. Students lived with host families in Dos Hermanas and also visited famous sites such as the Alcázar of Seville and the La Alhambra palace in Granada.
The students enjoyed the sightseeing and tours, but the opportunity to immerse themselves in the Spanish language and culture was even more memorable. Homestays in Dos Hermanas strengthened relationships with their Spanish peers as well as other KCD students on the trip. “It was fun to be with students we were not as close to and get to know them,” said junior Pallavi Dev.

Junior Areeba Khan was fond of their time at the school in Dos Hermanas. “The school had so many cute kids and they were very interested in our lives asked us a lot of questions. It was also interesting to see the differences their school system.”

Junior Heeba Nazeer was amazed at how her language skills improved. Host families didn’t speak English, which required our students to make a big adjustment. “We had absolutely no choice but to talk to them with the Spanish skills we had acquired here at KCD,” Heeba said. “Señora Enseñat was right—real life does not have subtitles. I was grateful that I was able to translate and communicate quite well with the host families.”
