Rachel Hirsch ’14 named as varsity field hockey head coach
We are excited to announce that 2014 KCD grad Rachel Hirsch will be the new varsity head field hockey coach for the Bearcats. Rachel grew up in Louisville and attended KCD from first grade through twelfth grade. She quickly developed a love for the game, playing club hockey with IFHCK and participating in USA Futures as well.
During her junior year of high school, Rachel had the honor of playing on the U17 Junior National Team and competing in Amsterdam. Rachel was a valued part of our Bearcat field hockey program as well.
After graduation, Rachel accepted an athletic scholarship to play field hockey for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, the alma mater of former coach Amy Elliott. During her freshman season, the Deacs won the ACC Championship. As a Division 1 athlete, Rachel learned both the skills and discipline required to play at the highest level of the sport. She played all four years and was always known for her speed, grit, and determination.
Rachel majored in education during her undergraduate years at Wake Forest. Post graduation, she remained at Wake and obtained her Masters in Education with an emphasis on elementary mathematics. She is currently a kindergarten teacher at Crestwood Elementary, where she enjoys her work tremendously and the positive influence she can have upon young students. Since returning to Louisville, Rachel has been active in the field hockey world and has coached several teams with IFHCK. We are so excited to have Rachel back at KCD and we look forward to her leading the Bearcat field hockey program!
Former KCD field hockey coach and newly appointed athletic director Amy Elliot is thrilled to have Rachel leading the program. “Rachel was a phenomenal student athlete and field hockey player here at KCD, and her experience in college and her love of the game will continue to propel our field hockey program to further greatness. I’m thrilled to have her leading the Bearcats!”
Rachel will lead the current varsity team coaching staff, which includes Patrick McAnulty, Sheila Erk, and Sarah Vissing. The JV team will be coached by Caroline Downer Wright and Becca Anderson.
