KCD Black Student Union helps fund community scholarship
Thanks to the fundraising efforts of KCD’s Black Student Union, the Lynn Johnson NEXT Level Scholarship was presented for the first time at the Black Achievers Banquet on February 27. The majority of the scholarship funds were raised by the BSU through a dress down day in the Upper School earlier this year.
KCD senior Jalen Todd, who currently serves as Vice President of the Black Achievers Teen Senate, explained why this project was important to the BSU. “It was a way to give back to a program, which I am a member of, that has given so much to the communities of our city and to honor Mrs. Lynn Johnson, who has been a staple of the program for nearly three decades. This scholarship will help its recipients pursue a degree in higher education to better not only their minds but their lives overall as well.”
