In-service helps faculty understand, respect, and connect

On August 17–18, KCD held its first in-service days of the school year for faculty. Part of each in-service focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) training as part of the DEI work that KCD committed to this summer.
KCD DEI director James Racine led virtual sessions for all faculty. During these sessions, KCD teachers and faculty discussed curriculum, pedagogy, and relational practices that increase students’ sense of belonging in their classroom.

“For our in-service days, my goal was to present a transformational experience based on three tenets: understanding, respecting, and connecting,” Mr. Racine commented. “We engaged in ‘Courageous Conversations’ sessions to increase understanding of how identity, difference, and oppression manifest in educational settings.”

During the in-service, sessions were also held on tech training for BRE and strategies for building relationships with students during remote learning.
