Fifth graders hold Bearcat Olympics

On May 13, fifth graders participated in the first-ever Bearcat Olympics. Students worked in groups to create a Greek god, goddess, or monster; write a brief description with origin mythology; plan an Olympic event to honor their creation; and analyze the Olympic data to create graphs for a nonfiction article and newscast. Events ranged from rock stacking to a typing contest to a sock-off (a race to see who could put on the most socks in a set amount of time, of course). This cross-curricular event brought the entire fifth-grade together and connected their studies from all of their classes this year. Students did a fantastic job working together to create imaginative Greek creations and Olympic events. Way to go, Bearcats!
