Middle school speech team earns trophy for excellence at state tournament
Over February 28–29, the KCD middle school speech team competed at the 2020 Kentucky State Speech Tournament. The team’s strong performance placed them 4th in the state, and the Bearcats received the sustained excellence traveling trophy, which they will get to keep for a year.
Several students made semifinals, putting them in the top 18 in the state, and many of those students made finals. The results were as follows:
Quinn Hall and Rowan Hall: Improvisational Duo
Rowan Hall: Humorous Interpretation
Lila Hayden: Prose Interpretation
Seleen Maya: Dramatic Interpretation and Poetry
Minhal Nazeer: Declamation and Prose
Melis Ozyurekoglu: Humorous Interpretation
Soren Rai: Broadcasting Announcing
Anya Sharma: Dramatic Interpretation
Naya Singal: Prose Interpretation and Storytelling
Naya Singal and Lila Hayden: Duet Acting
Katie Vonder Haar: Original Oratory
Of those semifinalists, several students placed in finals, putting them in the top 6 in the state.
