Jecorey Arthur takes students on a journey through music history
On February 10, award-winning teacher, musician, and activist Jecorey “1200” Arthur shared his musical talents and knowledge with lower and middle school students during a morning assembly. As part of Black History Month, Mr. Arthur took students on a journey through the history of black music in America, including African drumming, blues, jazz, funk, R&B, hip hop, and more. He invited students on stage to help play several instruments and even taught them a few dances! Mr. Arthur emphasized that American popular music has been profoundly influenced by black artists and that black history is just American history.
