David & Betty Jones honored at Alumni and Chair’s Reception
We were proud to honor the memory of longtime KCD supporters David and Betty Jones at the Alumni and Chair’s Reception on January 24. David and Betty, who passed away within a month of each other last fall, were honored with the Exceptional Service Award, which recognizes individuals who have made important contributions to the KCD community.
Head of School Peter Huestis and Board Chair George Wagner presented the award to David and Betty’s daughter Carol, a current KCD parent and member of the KCD class of 1989.
In his remarks, Mr. Huestis noted that, “The decision to move KCD from Rock Creek to our current location on Springdale Road took place during David’s tenure on the board. Many questioned a move that positioned KCD’s campus ‘in the middle of a corn field.’ However, a strong vision combined with calculated risk resulted in what many would consider to be the best decision in our school’s history … Betty and David’s shared passion for education instilled in their children and grandchildren a love of learning and commitment to education that lives on. Everyone in this room has been positively impacted by the KCD experience, and we owe a debt of gratitude to Betty and David for helping to build that experience over the past 40 years.”
The Alumni and Chair’s Reception is an annual event for KCD graduates, major donors, and volunteers. For the last three years, the reception has been held at Copper & Kings.
