This summer, KCD’s Matt Evans and Clark Pollitt led a group of middle school students on a memorable trip through Costa Rica. This biennial trip gives KCD students an opportunity to enjoy some amazing experiences, but it also focuses on opportunities to connect with the Ticos, the people of Costa Rica. This is accomplished mainly through a soccer service mission, where the KCD community donates soccer equipment to help the local youth soccer clubs and communities that KCD has established a relationship with over the years. This is one way the students and faculty on this trip do a great job of taking the KCD motto of being citizens, scholars, and stewards across the world!
Mr. Pollit and Mr. Evans are grateful to everyone that helped contribute to the service mission. Whether through donating money, donating gear, donating time, or just participating in our annual 3v3 event, many in our community contributed to the success of this trip.
The trip included many KCD soccer players, and soccer served as a common ground to connect our students with the young people of Costa Rica. The group was able to play friendlies against local futbol clubs La Fortuna and Montverde, with the Bearcats holding their own in each match! This is an amazing opportunity for our community to experience a new place and culture while putting smiles on a lot of kids’ faces with many great acts of service.
