Girls lacrosse season ends in hard-fought semifinal game
For the first time since 2006, the Bearcats missed an opportunity to compete in the state championship game after falling in a classic semifinal game to arch-rival Sacred Heart by a score of 13-12. The Bearcats fell behind 3-0 early but then reeled off six in a row to surge ahead. After building a 8-4 lead, SHA scored three quick goals to take back momentum heading into halftime. The Bearcats again built a good lead in the second half and had the ball with a couple minutes left looking to take the last shot, but could not hang on, ultimately falling 13-12.
KCD goals were scored by Lucy Poindexter (4), Mary Mason Spears (3), Mary Claire Duncan (2), Sophia Sparks (2), and Emily Harrison (1).
The Bearcats will graduate 11 seniors who have done a great deal for the program over the years. Head Coach Pat McAnulty stated, “It was a very painful loss, but I am so proud of the effort our kids put forth and the way they supported each other all season. We'll be back even hungrier next year and get that trophy back!"
