Artemis Fund presents grants to local charities

On May 7, the student trustees of The Artemis Fund presented a total of $7,499 in grants to three local youth services organizations. Lifehouse Maternity Home received a grant to start an education fund for young mothers and their children. Smoketown Family Wellness Center will use their grant for a Reach Out and Read program that provides developmentally-appropriate books to children on their well child visits to get them ready for kindergarten. St. Joseph Children’s Home received a grant to support their Therapy and Sensory Aid Project, which provides traumatized children with therapeutic materials.
The Artemis Fund is administered by students enrolled in the upper school Philanthropy course. During the class, students learn the history of philanthropy, organize fundraisers, review grant requests, and conduct interviews before making their final decisions. The Fund, whose mission is to support organizations that encourage the development of youth in the community, has been awarding grants for nearly 20 years.
