KCD delegation earns top award at KUNA

Over March 17–19, 74 KCD students participated in the Kentucky United Nations Assembly (KUNA), an experiential learning conference in which students participate directly in simulated international diplomacy. We are very proud that KCD was once again recognized as the Outstanding Delegation, the top overall award among all delegations.
In addition, many KCD students held prominent positions or were recognized for excellence. Senior Aisha Asad served as KUNA Secretary General. Tala Maya was recognized as KCD’s Outstanding Delegate. Liam Gallagher was recognized both as Outstanding Speaker and Outstanding Security Council Member. Sharika Singh and Sam Berman were selected to be Summit Committee Chairs for their excellence in organizing, monitoring, and advancing debate.

Finally, our delegation advanced two Outstanding Resolutions, which passed through two rounds of debate and were approved in Summit Councils:
  • Resolution to Solve Water Scarcity in Portugal: Tony Chen, Youssef Saad, Mahmoud Kutmah, and Mona Sahney
  • A Resolution to Encourage Action against Trafficking and Child Abuse: Mason Touma, Heather Colman, Ben Clift, and Bella Cowen. This resolution was also one of only a few endorsed by the UN Secretary General as relevant to her platform, earning special recognition before the General Assembly.
According to KUNA sponsor Sarah Moran, “Our KCD students were model students in every way possible and I am very proud of them. We had many first-timers to KUNA, and I think they were all surprised by the intensity—and positivity—of the experience. It was an exciting 2½ days.”
