Exponential Expansion of Advanced (ACT/SAT/ERB) Vocabulary: ROCK THE TESTS!: Session 2 (Grades 6th-9th)
This course will involve nothing less than an assault on several professional study guides for ACT/SAT/ERB vocabulary. We will engage in a myriad of creative games and exercises that will aid in burning these words indelibly into our minds. The books we use offer excellent visual mnemonic devices, making learning difficult words much less painful than a standard vocabulary text.
Again this year, we will be using the very popular rock music component! Rock The SAT makes learning high-stakes testing vocabulary as easy as listening to your mobile device. I will provide the songs, and students can import them into their iTunes for listening well beyond the week of class. Believe it or not, this class is actually FUN.
Included: Vocabulary Cartoons, by the Princeton Review, and Rock The SAT, a CD of songs that incorporate the hot 200 SAT/ACT words into catchy, easy-to-remember pop/rock songs (all materials provided by the instructor)
Please note: Should you wish to enroll your child in both this course and the accompanying afternoon course(s) I offer, I will gladly supervise the lunch hour here at school. Students will need to bring their own lunches each morning. Refrigeration is available.

Polished Essay Composition in the Digital Age: Session 2 (Grades 6th-9th)
This course is a primer in the fundamentals of solid essay writing, with an added emphasis on the integration of technological tools to maximize efficiency. Using the tremendous technological tools now at our disposal, we will immerse ourselves fully in the writing process, learning the fundamentals of excellence in essay writing. We will pay special attention to the art of self-editing and revision, which will require students to begin to understand writing as a process rather than a product. Students will produce at least one, and possibly two, complete essays during our week of work. No homework will be required, but I will offer evening digital assistance for any motivated students who want to work at night to go the extra mile!
Supplies: All supplies provided; students should bring their Chromebooks or laptops to class all week.
Please note: Should you wish to enroll your child in both this course and the accompanying morning course(s) I offer, I will gladly supervise the lunch hour here at school. Students will need to bring their own lunches each morning. Refrigeration is available. Please also look at the full-day English camp option to save money.

English Reading Comprehension and Grammar: Session 2 (Grades 6th-9th)
We will divide the class evenly, working on honing both our reading comprehension and essential English grammar skills. Students will learn and practice strategies for discerning and retaining key information when reading academic texts, and we will review the fundamental grammar knowledge middle school students need to be strong technical writers and to succeed on standardized tests like the ERB, ACT, and SAT.
This course is designed as an intensive introduction to both the content and format of the ACT and SAT English sections, and we will also cover essential English grammar. It is intended to serve the highly-motivated middle school student who wants to get a jump on the preparatory process. We will use the latest edition available from major preparatory companies, covering as much of the text as we can possibly squeeze into our week of study and review.
