Kentucky Country Day School announces new Lower School Director

Kentucky Country Day School is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Ana Casanova as KCD’s new Lower School Director, effective July 1, 2026.
Ms. Casanova was selected from a talented, diverse pool of more than 40 applicants from across the United States and around the world. From that group, the search committee interviewed 12 semifinalists and invited three finalists to visit KCD’s campus in November.

“Ana brings an intentionality to her decision-making and a thoughtful student-centered approach to everything she does,” stated Head of School Deena Carey. “She places strong relationships at the heart of her work, and I am confident in her ability to lead with clarity, kindness, and purpose. I am enthusiastic about the strength and care she will bring to our Lower School community.”

Ms. Casanova, who is bilingual in English and Spanish, brings 17 years of independent school experience to KCD, including extensive work in early childhood and the elementary grades. She currently serves as a Literacy Specialist at The Lamplighter School in Dallas, Texas.

At Lamplighter, Ms. Casanova has chaired reaccreditation study committees, spearheaded curriculum mapping and assessment reviews, and fully developed the Literacy Extension program, which currently serves students in grades K–4 at the school. Her leadership is rooted in collaboration, proactive communication, and a deep commitment to supporting teachers and families so that students can thrive.

Ms. Casanova attended the University of Virginia, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Language and Literature and a Master of Teaching. She is a Klingenstein Summer Institute Fellow, has participated in The Heads Network Women’s Leadership Seminar, and has completed additional training through several professional associations, including post-graduate coursework emphasizing differentiation and meeting diverse student needs.

Originally from Austin, Texas, Ms. Casanova is excited to join the KCD community and looks forward to building strong, meaningful relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
