The KCD Middle School Speech Team traveled to Florence, Kentucky, to compete at the Kentucky High School Speech League (KHSSL) Middle School State Tournament the weekend of February 27-28. The event brought together 29 schools, 252 students, and 393 total entries.
KCD, represented by just 7 students and 15 entries—only 3.8% of the total field—proved once again that they are a true small-team powerhouse. After placing 3rd at Regionals earlier this month, the team delivered an outstanding performance at State, finishing 7th overall. Notably, this finish placed KCD ahead of both the Regional Runner-Up (Hebron Middle School) and the Derby Regional Champion (Noe Middle School).
Ayaan Rallapalli ’30 and Eva Zou ’31 advanced to finals in their respective events, while the team’s strong overall placement was powered by the combined efforts of Lucas Naughton ’30, Lucas Trogner ’30, Asher Gallagher ’30, Kosuke Morinaga ’30, and George Chen ’32.
