The curriculum at Kentucky Country Day School goes far beyond the basics, emphasizing the education of the whole child with academic, social, and emotional development. In the Lower School, we focus on 21st-century skills in a curriculum that is challenging, developmentally appropriate, and balanced with time for play.

Small classes (an average of 16) mean that our teachers get to know each child and are able to focus on differentiation. Students learn that KCD is a safe place to challenge themselves, express their creativity, and explore new ideas.

Distinctive Programs

Our curriculum goes well beyond the basics to offer what we believe is the most dynamic and well-rounded academic program in the region. In addition to outstanding classroom instruction, our program includes a group of specialist teachers who extend our curriculum in many exciting ways.

Technology

The intuitive, touchscreen capabilities of the iPad make it the perfect device for young students. The lower school iPad program allows our classroom teachers to introduce technology in a developmentally appropriate way. The devices facilitate differentiation and provide students with a powerful creative tool.

Students in grades JK–4 also participate in regular computer classes taught by a full-time lower school technology coordinator. Students begin learning the basics of coding in junior kindergarten and take on more sophisticated projects as their programming skills improve. The programming curriculum culminates in fourth grade, where students program their own LEGO robots.
