Lower School Director

Kentucky Country Day School (KCD) is seeking a Lower School Director to oversee all activities involving more than 290 students and approximately 30 faculty in grades JK-4. The Lower School Director reports to the Head of School and serves as an integral member of the Head of School’s senior leadership team.

The ideal candidate will have previous lower school leadership experience, lower school classroom teaching experience, and a minimum of a master’s degree. The candidate will have a strong background in best practices in teaching and learning that foster the development of students’ social, emotional, and academic skills, as well as experience working with multiple school constituencies in a diverse community. The candidate will have the ability to balance the big picture of school life with the day-to-day details of managing the Lower School and the individual needs of our community members. The candidate will be a good listener who fosters collegiality among the lower school faculty. The personal qualities of approachability, flexibility, good humor, and patience are also desirable for this position.

Responsibilities begin July 1, 2026. An internal interim head is in place for the 2025-26 school year. Included here is the full position statement.
