KCD Middle School student named winner in MTNA State Music Composition Competition
Congratulations to KCD 8th grader Tara K. ’31 for winning top honors in the Kentucky Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Junior Division Composition Competition!
Tara took first place at the state level with her original composition for violin and piano, titled “Chasing Echoes.” Her piece was evaluated on its artistic craft and score notation, following MTNA guidelines that require works to be under ten minutes and strictly composed without the use of AI tools.
As the state winner, Tara will now advance to represent the state in the MTNA Regional Division Competition, with results expected to be announced in mid-December.
KCD audiences will have the chance to hear Tara’s piece at our upcoming KCD Orchestra concert on November 18, featuring Eva Z. ’31 on violin and composer Tara on piano. Congratulations to Tara on this accomplishment, and best of luck as she moves on to the regional division!
