Giving FAQ

List of 10 items.

  • What is the One Fund?

The One Fund is an essential component of our fundraising program. Tuition alone cannot fund everything that makes KCD the extraordinary place that it is. The gap between tuition and the full cost of each student’s KCD education is nearly $2,000. The One Fund helps bridge this gap. Each year KCD asks its alumni, parents, grandparents, and friends for gifts to the One Fund. Your participation is a reflection of the KCD community’s commitment to the school. For the last 5 years, 100% of our faculty and the Board of Trustees have contributed to the One Fund – a true commitment from everyone who makes KCD extraordinary.
  • Where does the money go?

Contributions to the One Fund directly support our dedicated faculty, exceptional academic curriculum, outstanding arts and athletic programs, rapidly changing technology needs, campus safety, security, and maintenance.

KCD does not receive any federal, state, or local funding to supplement the gap between tuition income and the annual operating budget.
  • Why not raise tuition to cover the full cost?

We strongly believe that a diverse student body is an integral part of the KCD experience and enriches the lives of all our students. Increasing the cost of tuition would deny access to our school for many of our families and negatively impact all facets of KCD, including diversity, sustainability, and financial durability. Additionally, donations to the One Fund are fully tax-deductible, while tuition is not, so think about the One Fund as the tax-deductible portion of your tuition. Donating benefits you more than raising tuition would.
  • How important is the One Fund to KCD?

The experience of learning at KCD is an intense and rewarding one. While KCD carefully stewards its resources, the cost of this experience is approximately $1.5 million more than the revenues generated from tuition. Your support for the One Fund plays a critical role in meeting the annual operating financial needs of the school and its programs.
  • How much am I expected to give?

Our request is that you make KCD your primary philanthropic priority. We ask that you contribute at a level that is personally meaningful and that makes sense for your family, keeping in mind the number of children you have at KCD. Gifts range from $25 to $100,000. Every gift is greatly valued and deeply appreciated.
  • When should I make my gift?

KCD operates on a fiscal year that begins on July 1 and ends on June 15. Many donors choose to make their gifts closer to the end of the calendar year in December in order to take advantage of IRS tax benefits. However, your gift to the school is greatly appreciated at any time before the end of our fiscal year.
  • If I cannot make a large gift right now, what are my options?

You can make recurring payments toward fulfilling a larger annual pledge throughout the current fiscal year. This convenient option allows you to split a gift into smaller payment installments by charging your credit or debit card monthly or quarterly.
  • Is my gift tax-deductible?

KCD is a 501(c)3 nonprofit educational institution, and we invite you to make a fully tax-deductible investment in our school.
  • Will my employer offer a matching gift?

Many companies offer a program that matches the value of any employee’s gift to a nonprofit organization. Please check with your human resources department to see if your company offers matching gifts.
  • What is a stock gift?

Gifts of common stock can be donated at any time, allowing the donor to receive the fair market value of appreciated securities at the time the gift is made, while avoiding capital gains tax in the appreciated value of the stock.
