A801: English Grammar/Writing/Vocabulary Immersion Week

*Second time offered. English Grammar/Writing/Vocabulary Immersion Week (including all-day/lunch supervision and Friday trip to The Paddock Shops for a celebratory lunch) This full set of classes is the most popular option for the motivated English student. A802: Exponential Expansion of SAT Vocabulary: Rock the SAT!

*Second time offered. Included: NEW BOOK FOR 2018! Vocabulary Cartoons, by the Princeton Review, and ROCK THE SAT, a CD of songs that incorporate the hot 200 SAT/ACT words into catchy, easy-to-remember pop/rock songs (all materials provided by the instructor) This course will involve nothing less than an assault on several professional study guides for SAT/ACT vocabulary. We will engage in a myriad of creative games and exercises that will aid in burning these words indelibly into our minds. The books we use offer excellent visual mnemonic devices, making learning difficult words much less painful than a standard vocabulary text. Again this year we will be using the very popular rock music component! Rock The SAT makes learning SAT vocabulary as easy as listening to your mobile device. I will provide the songs, and students will be able to import them into their iTunes for listening well beyond the week of class! Believe it or not, this class is actually FUN:-). Please Note: Should you wish to enroll your child in both this course and the accompanying afternoon course(s) I offer, I will gladly supervise the lunch hour here at school. A803: Polished Essay Composition in the Digital Age

 *Second time offered. A primer in the fundamentals of solid essay writing, with an added emphasis on the integration of technological tools to maximize efficiency 6th-9th Additional Supplies Needed: all supplies provided (STUDENTS SHOULD BRING THEIR CHROMEBOOKS OR LAPTOPS TO CLASS ALL WEEK!) Using the tremendous technological tools now at our disposal, we will immerse ourselves fully in the writing process, learning the fundamentals of excellence in essay writing. We will pay special attention to the art of self-editing and revision, which will require students to begin to understand writing as a process, rather than a product. Students will produce at least one and possibly two complete essays within our week of work. No homework will be required, but I will offer p.m. digital assistance for any motivated students who want to work at night to go the extra mile! A804: ACT/SAT English PLUS GRAMMAR

 *Second time offered. An introduction to format and content of the English sections of SAT and ACT, along with a review of the fundamental skills of English grammar. This course was designed by a middle school teacher for highly motivated/high-achieving middle school students. 6th-9th This course is designed as an intensive introduction to both the content and format of the SAT and ACT English sections, and we will also cover essential English grammar. It is intended to serve the highly-motivated middle school student who wants to get a jump on the preparatory process. We will use the latest edition available from the Princeton Review, covering as much of the text as we can possibly squeeze into our week of study and review.

A806: Kindergarten Kickstart (K)

Join Mrs. Cohen and Ms. Christoff to get a head-start on learning the ropes of Kindergarten. We will polish our Kindergarten skills as we play math games, read fun stories together, and learn our way around the Lower School building. Our theme for the week will be the wonderful and fun stories of Dr. Seuss! This week will provide an opportunity for students to learn and play with other KCD kindergarteners while preparing for a great year ahead. Our goal is for our campers to feel confident and ready for their first day of school. What to bring: A simple snack and a water bottle each day. Wear tennis shoes as we will be venturing out to the playground

A808: Kindergarten Stay and Play (K)

Your Kindergartener can join Ms. Judy (KCD JK and K Art teacher and After School Director) for lunch and play time each day after Kindergarten Kickstart. We will take our sack lunches outside for a picnic and then we will explore the campus inside and out, play games, make art, have creative play like dress-up and even go dig, plant and water in the garden. It will be a fun and rewarding time with new and old kindergarten friends here at KCD. *Note - pick up will be at 3:00 daily.

A809: Blast of Broadway K-6th

Six days of acting, singing and dancing on KCD's beautiful stage and in our fabulous black box theatre! Participate in a camp led by renowned New York choreographer Lane Gifford in collaboration with one of KCD's talented musical faculty, Jeannine Ary. A Blast of Broadway offers master classes in drama, music and dance. This hands-on learning approach is a fun and exciting learning experience for all drama and music students. No prior experience is necessary, as classes are geared to the varied levels of the students, some of whom are returning participants. This workshop concludes with a musical theater production of scenes from Broadway shows presented to parents and friends on day 6. Campers should bring a snack and lunch and wear comfortable workout clothes (no skirts or sandals) every day. For our presentation, please wear plain black shorts and a solid primary colored t-shirt

A810: College Application and Essay Workshop (12th)

This course will introduce students to all aspects of the Common Application. Students will complete all the sections of the application including the biographical section, activities and leadership resume, and essay. Students will think about how to make their writing creative and persuasive. They will brainstorm, outline, organize, and formulate a game plan for the essay topics for their desired colleges. One day admissions counselors from several different colleges will attend the course to help student with the revision portion of their essays. Student should bring their laptops.

A811: Prepare for the PSAT/ SAT Mathematics and English Prep (10th-11th)

Be prepared to take the newly revised PSAT and SAT tests that the College Board will be offering during the 2018-2019 school year. Take this prep class to review content in math, reading, grammar and usage, and writing skills. You will also learn helpful test-taking strategies to recognize problem types, use process of elimination effectively, and manage your time. Class materials will be those provided directly by the College Board. Students must bring a laptop, calculator, pencils and pens, and paper to the class each day. A binder will be provided to organize all materials.

A812: Messy Fun (JK-4th)

Do you enjoy getting a little messy when you play? Then this is the camp for you! We'll make glow in the dark slime and a really cool tye-dyed t-shirt. We'll paint with shaving cream and have an entire day for wacky water play. We'll also make our own snacks, including tye-dyed cupcakes and "worms in dirt." We hope you'll join us for this wonderful week of messiness!
