Booster Club boosts facilities, professional development

Over the summer, KCD parent and grade Powell Starks ’79 concluded his tenure as president of the KCD Booster Club, handing the helm to KCD parent and grad Tom Crockett ’84 on July 1. We’d like to thank Mr. Starks for his leadership and to recognize some of the Booster Club’s achievements over the last year.

During Mr. Starks’ tenure, the Booster Club worked closely with the KCD business office to streamline budgeting and purchasing processes. The Club also paid off its pledge to the soccer lighting project and initiated a campus-wide branding plan for our athletic facilities. The Club also made purchases supporting nine of our athletic programs as well as the PE and strength programs.

In addition to their many material contributions, The Booster Club also launched an ambitious professional development program that allows our coaches to attend conferences and clinics every two years. Thanks to this program, every high school coach has taken and passed the National Federation of High Schools Fundamentals of Coaching course. The athletics department is hoping to expand this professional development opportunity to our middle school coaches within the next few years.

KCD’s head football coach Matt Jones benefited greatly from the Fundamentals of Coaching course. “The course is detailed and in-depth, as it should be, and I am grateful that KCD and specifically the Booster Club provided me and my entire coaching staff the opportunity to learn and grow as a coach by taking the course. There are many schools that do not put such a priority on continuing education for the coaches and coaching staffs, and we are fortunate.”

We’d like to thank the Booster Club for being amazing citizens of our community and thoughtful stewards of our facilities. Your efforts on behalf of our students are truly appreciated!
