For the fourth year in a row, KCD's varsity girls lacrosse team has captured the state championships title. The Bearcats defeated Sacred Heart 14-8 last night to win the title. Here's the Courier-Journal's coverage of the game. The Bearcats got off to a great start and built a 10-3 lead going into halftime. Sacred Heart rallied early in the second half and scored five unanswered goals to trim the lead to two. KCD sealed the win late in the game with four unanswered goals of their own.
The Bearcats enjoyed an incredible season, boasting a 21-5 record and avenging its only loss to a Kentucky team in the state championship game against Sacred Heart. The state championshp is the seventh overall for KCD, and the Bearcats have appeared in 13 straight state title games.
Macy Fugitte was named MVP of the state tournament, and teammates Lulu Lavin, Lucy Poindexter, and Sophia Sparks were named to the All-State Tournament team. Emily Harrison, Hadley Jackson, Lavin, and Poindexter also received all state honors for their outstanding play during the regular season.
