Sophomore achieves top ACT score

In April, Taylor Parker became the third KCD student to earn a perfect ACT score this year, joining Lorenzo Mahoney and Lauren Rawson in this impressive accomplishment. Taylor felt a variety of emotions when she learned she scored a 36 on the college admissions test. “When I learned of my score, I was elated and relieved that I was finished with my standardized testing after only one attempt,” she said.
Taylor was well prepared for her first attempt at the ACT, as she was intentional and thorough in her study habits. She cited mock tests, prep guides, tutors, feedback from her teachers, and even her middle school coursework as crucial to her performance on the test. “In reality, I started preparing for the ACT with my middle school coursework, particularly with all of the vocabulary I acquired in seventh grade English. This year, I purchased the Official ACT Prep Guide that contains three real ACT tests, and I used all of them to prepare for the exam.”
Taylor also reached out to one of her English teachers to help prepare for the writing portion of the exam so that she could be efficient while writing the prompt. The teacher reviewed and critiqued her practice responses, which gave her confidence going into the exam.

When asked what advice she could give to others preparing for the ACT, Taylor commented, “The best advice that I could give would be to take lots of practice tests in the most realistic situations possible. It allows you to be comfortable with the scenario and remain calm in an intense environment.”
