On March 3, about 275 middle and high school students participated in the Louisville Regional Science and Engineering Fair (LRSEF). Those participants included three KCD students: eighth grader Amy Suo, sophomore Jawad Saleem, and junior Eddy Zhong.
Amy Suo earned 2nd place in Bioinformatics for her research on "How Do Genetics Affect Asthma?”
Jawad Saleem earned 3rd place in Computational Biology for his research on “Structure Activity Relationship Models for Hepatoxicity” (using computer modeling to predict the liver toxicity of prescription medications).
Junior Eddy Zhong earned 1st place in Cellular Biology for his research on “Can Yeast Help Boost the Immune Response to Cancer.” Eddy also received a special award from the Office of Naval Research and was one of the four Best of Show award winners. Eddy automatically receives an invitation to the International Science Fair this May in Pittsburgh.
Congratulations to these talented young science students!
