‘Aqua Bearcats’ break records, place 4th in region

Congratulations to KCD’s Swim Team who placed 4th in the KHSAA Region 5 finals last week. The ‘Aqua Bearcats’ also broke two school records at the meet! 
Katie Coulter ’24 reset the record in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:54.48 (a personal best). The girls 400 freestyle relay team of Katie Coulter ’24, Cate Coartney ’24, Shepherd Caudill ’27, and Liana Renard ’23, then went on to break the school record (set in 1979) in their race with a time of 3:47.61! 
Congratulations to the following Bearcats who automatically qualify for the State competition:
  • Adam Hetman ’24, Addison Garlove ’24, Drew Collis ’23, and Alston Williams ’24 in the boys 200 medley relay
  • Addison Garlove ’24 in the 200 freestyle; Addison claimed 2nd in the event while dropping 8 seconds from his previous personal best! Addison is also a strong contender to make state in the 100 breaststroke where he placed 4th in his final heat with another personal best.
  • Adam Hetman ’24 who claimed 2nd in the 100 fly and 100 back with personal bests in both events
We have many other athletes who are strong contenders to make state in their relays and individual events based on time comparison across the state! Congratulations to:
  • Cate Coartney ’24, Liana Renard ’23, Shepherd Caudill ’27, and Katie Coulter ’24 came in 4th in the region for the girls 200 medley relay
  • Katie Coulter ’24 who came in 4th in the 200 freestyle with a personal best and 4th in the 500 freestyle
  • Cate Coartney ’24 who came in 4th in the 200 IM 
  • Liana Renard ’23 who came in 5th in the 200 IM and 3rd in the 100 breaststroke
  • Drew Collis ’23 who came in 4th in the 200 IM and 3rd in the 100 fly
  • Alston Williams ’24 who came in 5th in the 50 free with a personal best 
  • William Jay ’23 who came in 7th in the region in the 100 free with a personal best
  • Katie Coulter ’24, Cate Coartney ’24, Shepherd Caudill ’27, and Liana Renard ’23 in the girls 400 freestyle relay who came in 4th in the region with a school record
  • Adam Hetman ’24, Alston Williams ’24, Addison Garlove ’24, and Drew Collis ’23 in the boys 400 free relay who came in 3rd in the region
