Math students create Pi Day activities for lower schoolers

March 14 is beloved by math fans because the numerical date of 3/14 matches the first three digits of math’s most famous irrational number: pi or 3.14. Jenni Williams’ Advanced Geometry classes celebrated Pi Day on March 14 by visiting Andrea Goode’s second-graders and Ross Cohen’s first-graders.
Upper school students created a series of pi (and pie) related games and activities designed to explore the concept of pi in an age-appropriate way. For example, upper schoolers guided lower schoolers in a cookie-decorating activity in order to explain the concept of circumference. Thanks to Chef Chris for contributing to the Pi Day festivities by serving pizza pie and apple pie for lunch.
