KCD's Action Items

In order to ensure that KCD is a safe, welcoming, and inclusive place,

  • We continue to offer increased DEI training for faculty during in-service days, including ongoing sessions led by DEI Director James Racine.
  • We held a series of productive meetings during the summer of 2021 with KCD grads who offered concrete suggestions on how we can make KCD more welcoming and inclusive for all students.
  • We held a series of meetings during the summer of 2021 with local, regional, and national experts, helping us navigate diverse perspectives.
  • We have launched BAAM, a Black/African-American Mentoring Program that seeks to connect our Black/African-American upper school students with KCD alumni across the country.
  • We will continue to actively recruit and retain a diverse faculty by engaging with experts such as Nemnet.
  • We will continue family affinity groups organized in partnership with the Parent Association.
  • We will use the Statement of Inclusion crafted by faculty, parents, and trustees as a guidepost for our work at KCD.
  • We will research and implement a more diverse and inclusive curriculum, including reading lists and authors that portray diverse experiences positively.
  • We will continue and expand the Courageous Conversations workshops for student, exploring the power of words and actions.
  • We will continue working with our DEI Director to ensure that discipline is handled fairly and without bias.
