Upper School partners with Junior Achievement
Through a partnership with Junior Achievement of Kentuckiana, the Upper School will provide a series of financial literacy courses for students this fall. The program at KCD was arranged by Dean of Students Patrick Mulloy, who feels that the JA program is a great opportunity for our students. “The Personal Finance Curriculum was a perfect fit for our Upper School,” he said. “Over the course of five X periods, students will talk with local professionals about financial issues in the real world. This will include everything from balancing a checkbook to discussions on student loans and the dangers of credit cards.”
The JA financial literacy curriculum will be taught by a group of KCD parents, alumni, and business professionals, who met this week with Junior Achievement Coordinator Olivia Hilerio to discuss the details of the program. The Junior Achievement program specializes in educating students about economics and the business world. Our local chapter helps connect business professionals to classrooms throughout our city.
“I am very excited about integrating these classes into our students’ schedules,” Mr. Mulloy said, “and also very thankful for the time that these professionals are devoting to our student body.”
Thanks to the following professionals for volunteering their time to teach our students: Terri Allen (Meridian Realty Investments); Patricia Bennett (Merrill Lynch); Delbert Billiter, Angele Kehdy, and Gregory Lawson (LG&E); Gentry Easley (Stifel Nicolaus); Patrick Grismer (YUM!); Tom Jones (Wells Fargo); Rob King (Northwestern Mutual); Michael Knustrom (Merrill Lynch); Ted Mitzlaff (CCI Chemical Corporation); Philip Poindexter (Stock Yards); Justin Rascati and Hunter Rankin (Sterling Thompson); Roger Shannon (Steel Technologies); Powell Spears (Cassidy Turley); Bill Tway (UBS); Gail Tway (PNC Bank); Jim Moore and Chambers Moore (Hilliard); Richard White (State Farm); Stuart Wilson, Bill Gilbert, and Mimi Kelly (LG&E).
