Team News

8/26 vs DeSales
KCD traveled today to Desales to play their 3rd game of the Season. Desales was coming off an impressive victory by beating the Ballard Bruins 1-0. KCD was looking to rebound from a loss vs Cal. They showed great promise at the start with a goal by Carson Gernert from Wesley Ghasem. Co-Captain Daniel Mark scored off a low free kick rip (#18 below) to make the score 2-0. Desales came back and scored to make it 2-1 but the Bearcats quickly answered when Wesley Ghasem scored his first goal of the season (from Daniel Greene). This goal was very well deserved as he has had assisted on almost half the goals for the Bearcats this season. The final score was 3-2 and the varsity team improved their record to 2-1-0 for the season.
 
Jace Martin had his debut for the JV squad as goal keeper and looked very impressive despite his lack of experience. JV beat Desales 2-1 with goals by Luke Schmidt (from Austin Fox) and Abhi Alur (from Alex Semple). JV is still undefeated with a 2-0-1 record.

Come out and support the Bearcats at Eastern on Thursday at 5:30 and 7.

8/19 vs CAL
The KCD Bearcats took the field for the second straight night vs. CAL. Christian Academy was coming off an impressive performance the night before, beating Collegiate 3-0. KCD also came off a winning performance by beating Ballard 4-1. The game started off quickly with an early goal by sophomore Carson Gernert. Unfortunately, CAL answered right back with a goal of their own to make the score 1-1. Before halftime, CAL scored the final goal of the game to make the score 2-1. The Bearcats played great despite the score and had many opportunities in the second half to tie the game. Josh Mark finished the game with 12 saves (14 is the KCD record).

David Giesel said the following about the game: "We played a tough young CAL team that has been turning heads recently in Kentucky Soccer, and gave them a good game. Hopefully, we can use this to build and grow on this for the rest of the season. Thanks to everyone who came out to the game.”

JV has had two great games. They came back from behind to tie Ballard 1-1 with a goal by Luke Schmidt and beat Cal 1-0 with a late free kick goal by Alex Semple.

8/18 vs. Ballard
The KCD Bearcat soccer team opened up their season with a game at Ballard. The team came away with a victory, beating the Bruins 4–1. Daniel Mark (18) scored the first goal of the season on a free kick right outside of the box. After this, the Bearcats came right back and Carson Gernert (from Wesley Gashem) scored his first goal of the season to make it 2-0 KCD. Towards the end of the 1st half, Daniel received a pass from senior Wesley Gashem to make the score 3-0. Ballard scored a PK in the start of the second half, but again Daniel scored on a rip from inside the box to put the game away for good. KCD now has a two-game win streak vs. Ballard.

Josh Mark played spectacularly in the goal and said this about the game: “It was a bit nerve-wracking at the start, considering it was my first varsity game and was against Ballard at Ballard. Once the game got started and we scored the first goal, I relaxed and could tell the team really started clicking. We did what we needed to do to come out there with a W.”

Daniel Mark had 3 goals, Carson Gernert had 1goal, and Wesley Gashem had 2 assists.
