Middle/Upper School Learning Support

Kentucky Country Day School is seeking a Middle School Learning Specialist with an emphasis in language arts to join our team. The learning specialist will be responsible for designing and implementing interventions, providing support and instruction to students individually, in small groups, and in classrooms primarily in the area of language arts, as well as general studies and executive functioning. As part of the support team, the Learning Specialist will work closely with other support team members, the Division Director, Deans, and Counselor and will collaborate regularly with faculty, families, and other specialists to improve student achievement.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree in education or related field preferred, certifications, relevant experience considered
  • Ability to work effectively with children across multiple age/grade levels
  • Strong knowledge of middle school language arts curriculum and teaching strategies
  • Experience working with students with diverse educational backgrounds and learning abilities
  • Experience supporting or coaching teachers in curriculum design and implementation, differentiated instruction, universal design for learning, authentic/performance assessment
  • Thorough understanding of learning differences and best practices for instructing neurodiverse students
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Commitment to continued professional development
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assess and monitor needs of students referred and determine appropriate goals and interventions
  • Provide feedback to teachers and parents on student progress
  • Assist faculty in enriching or supporting students in the classroom environment either to support the learning specialist’s work or to meet student needs when more intensive support is not needed
  • Assist with test administration for students receiving accommodations
  • Provide professional development to faculty as needed
  • Attend parent-teacher conferences as needed and write grade report comments for students receiving support
  • Participate in middle school activities, community events, and assist with duties as assigned
