KCD CHESS TEAM

The Chess Team is for beginners through advanced players who are interested in improving their play and being part of the prestigious school team. Some of our players are in the top 100 nationally for their age group. Participating in scholastic chess tournaments is fully expected, which requires membership in the United States Chess Federation for a nominal fee of about $13 or $14 per year. Children will compete in several Saturday competitions in addition to the Quad B (regional qualifier tournament for State) and the State individual and potentially the State team championships. Hopefully some will be able to attend National tournaments held around the country throughout the year.

KCD Chess Team members compete in these tournaments for individual and team recognition, typically in the form of trophies. Chess Team provides instruction and t-shirts to all participants and meet Fridays after school from September to March until 4:30 p.m.
