Here at Kentucky
Country Day School (KCD), we believe that parental involvement in the life
of the school is essential to every student’s achievement and to the
school’s overall success. Our highly engaged parent body stands out
above other schools in the area. We hope that you will take advantage of
the opportunity
to support the school, attend our wonderful events, and volunteer for different
projects.
Independent schools such as KCD depend on the generous
support of their constituents to provide the outstanding education each student
deserves.
There are several
ways to contribute to KCD, but one of the most important ways that you can
show support for KCD is by donating to the Annual Enrichment Fund (AEF).
In 2005–2006, the AEF raised nearly $400,000! These funds allow us to
invest in making KCD a top-tier college prep school.
KCDate, our annual dinner
and auction, is a wonderful fund-raising event
held each spring. The 2006 auction raised over $155,000 for KCD in just
one night!
The evening always provides a great opportunity to celebrate the friendships
and community that make KCD such a special place.
We also encourage you
to contact the Institutional Advancement Office (814-4339) to share your
ideas on how to better the school. We can create customized
restricted giving opportunities to support those special projects that
mean the most to
you.
The gift of time is another important contribution that
you can make to KCD. Without the dedication and hard work of our many volunteers,
KCD would
simply
not be the exceptional school it is today.
With your help, KCD will continue to provide an exceptional start to
an extraordinary life for students today and in the future.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are some ways to contribute to KCD?
There are many ways to contribute
to KCD, including a gift to the Annual Enrichment Fund (AEF), a gift restricted
to a special purpose, or a gift to the school as part of your estate planning.
Why do I need to contribute to KCD if I am already
paying tuition?
KCD is a nonprofit independent school, which means that we receive no funding
from any government source. Tuition dollars provide our students with an outstanding
academic environment and many extracurricular opportunities, but annual gifts
create a margin of excellence at the school. Because of annual gifts to the
school, we are able to provide our students with one of the finest all-around
educational programs in the region.
For example, recent contributions to the
AEF have allowed us to
• become a regional leader in integrating
cutting-edge technology with the curriculum;
• make a substantial investment in professional development, allowing our
students to benefit from the latest research and innovative teaching strategies;
• introduce our students to a number of dynamic, nationally-prominent speakers;
• expand the number of electives available to students and create a prestigious
new honors program;
•
make substantial additions to the lower school’s core curriculum
by hiring teachers specializing in technology, foreign language, and
the arts.
Finally,
making a gift to KCD allows you to provide a direct benefit to your child
while receiving a tax deduction for your charitable giving.
Why is every gift
important?
A donation of any amount shows that you believe in the value of the education
that KCD is providing to your child. Every gift counts. Those considering
major gifts often use parent participation statistics when deciding whether
or not
to give money to KCD. A high level of parent participation shows that parents
support the mission of the school.
How can I give to KCD?
There are a variety of ways to give. Cash or checks can be sent to the
Institutional Advancement Office. We also offer online giving (see the
link above) via Visa, MasterCard, American Express,
Discover, and Diner’s Club. Gifts of stock and matching gifts are
also accepted. Matching gifts are a great and easy way to double and sometimes
triple your
gift to the school. Look into your company policy to see if it provides
this philanthropic service. Gifts to the AEF can be split and paid in monthly
installments,
but all pledges must be paid by the end of the fiscal year (June 30).
All gifts to KCD are tax deductible as allowed by law.
What
is the difference between a capital campaign and the AEF?
A capital campaign is a periodic fund-raising effort dedicated to major
projects such as new construction, renovation, and endowment. Gifts
made to a capital
campaign are typically paid out over several years.
The AEF is an
annual fund raising effort that is launched each fall. The AEF supports
annual operational and programming needs such as
technology, professional
development, additional equipment and faculty, and innovative programs.
Gifts made to the AEF are paid in full during the fiscal year (July
1–June
30).
Will I be asked to give to the AEF and a capital campaign
in the same year?
Yes. The AEF campaign takes place each school year, but capital
campaigns take place as major strategic needs arise (for example,
the construction
of our
new upper school in 2000). Capital campaigns usually entail larger
pledges and therefore may be paid over several years.
