Upper School presents A Christmas Carol
The Upper School got audiences into the holiday spirit with their superb production of A Christmas Carol. Performances took place on Friday and Saturday, December 7–8, and on Sunday, December 9.

The Upper School’s production of A Christmas Carol featured its chorale and select choir as well as twenty high school actors. Technology played a large part in this production as the set crewmanipulated six computer projectors to create the world of the play. Directed by fine arts chair Kate Scinta, with musical direction from Karen Welsh and technical direction by Rudy Keel. Congratulations to the cast and crew!

Oklahoma!
The Upper School presened a rousing production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! on February 29–March 2 at the Clifton Center.

First produced in 1943, Oklahoma! is perhaps the most produced musical in history. Based on a stage play by Lynn Riggs, the simple but serious plot shows pioneering men and women of the American Southwest settling in the territory of Oklahoma at the beginning of the twentieth century. With themes of romance, unrequited love, and tolerance, Oklahoma! is best known for its memorable ballads and rousing dance numbers.

Congratulations to cast and crew on a great production!

Annie Get Your Gun
The upper school production of the classic musical Annie Get Your Gun offered audiences an evening of music and romance along with plenty of fancy shooting! The play was staged over March 3-5 in the KCD Commons

The play is loosely based on the true story of Annie Oakley, a sharpshooter who joined Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show and fell in love with the show's star attraction: fellow sharpshooter Frank Butler. The ups and downs of their tumultuous relationship were chronicled in song in this classic musical.

Kelly Hedgspeth stars as Annie Oakley, Amir Sheth as Frank Butler, and Ethan Franc as Buffalo Bill. Supporting actors include Sunil Ramaswamy as Chief Sitting Bull, Max Vincenti as Charlie Davenport, Lara Shugoll as Dolly Tate, Anne-Kash Dobbins as Winnie Tate, and Tom James as Tommy Keeler. The play is directed by Kate Scinta, with musical direction by Karen Welsh, choreography by Diane Thurmond, and set designs by Rudy Keel.

Inherit the Wind
Between November 11 and 13, the upper school staged a fantastic production of the classic play Inherit the Wind. The play, which was written by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee in 1955, dramatizes the famous "Monkey Trial" of 1925, in which high school science teacher John Scopes was prosecuted by the State of Tennessee for teaching Darwin's theory of evolution. The trial, which played out against a whirlwind of media attention, pitted two of the greatest legal minds of the time against each other.

The play first opened on Broadway in 1955. Since that time, at least three movie adaptations have been produced, and the play has undergone numerous revivals. With this weekend's performances, we are pleased to bring this classic play to a KCD audience.

Inherit the Wind is directed by Kate Scinta, with technical direction by Rudy Keel.

The Sound of Music
On March 4–6, the middle school staged a wonderful production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's classic musical, The Sound of Music. Congratulations to director Kate Scinta, technical director Rudy Keel, music director Karen Welsh, and the entire cast and crew on an outstanding production. The play, which involved a large cast and crew of students in grades 2–12, was staged at the Clifton Center.

A Heart Divided
On November 5–7, KCD's upper school staged their production of A Heart Divided, a thoughtful and at times humorous reflection on race, history, and American identity.

The play centers around 16 year-old aspiring playwright Kate Pride (Courtney Tobe), whose urban New York family—including her father Pete (Sean Kleier), mother Jensen (Fielding Jezreel), and little sister Portia (Courtney Otto)—is suddenly uprooted to the small town of Redford, Tennessee. Once there, Kate meets a number of people who cause her to rethink many of her beliefs about race and national identity even as she challenges those same individuals to rethink their own.

In Redford, Kate encounters characters such as the Reverend Lucas Roberts (Dan Davies), a veteran of the Civil Rights movement whose son Luke (Kavir Patel) has embraced a more militant approach to fighting racism. Other Redford inhabitants featured in the play include high school student Jackson Redford (Newman McKay) and his patrician mother Sally (Suzanne Lenz), the poor but proud rural teenager Jared Boose (Christopher Robards), and restaurant owner Birdie McKinley (Erica Ashley).

The play was directed by Kate Scinta, with technical direction by Rudy Keel, and featured an ensemble cast of 25 talented young actors.
