Building upon the academic foundations established in the Lower and Middle Schools, the Upper School stresses the acquisition of the skills and knowledge necessary for students to be successful in a competitive college environment. The graduation requirements ensure that students develop a solid basis for future study, and elective offerings allow individuals to pursue areas of strength or special interest.

The academic requirements for graduation from the Kentucky Country Day School are as follows:

Subject Credit Hours
English 4
Mathematics 3
Science 3
History 3
Foreign Language 3 (or 2+2)
Fine Arts 1-1/3
Communication 1/3
PE 1/3
Health 1/3
Electives 2
Required Graduation Credits 20-1/3

A total of twenty and one-third credits are required for graduation. A full year course carries one credit, a trimester course one-third of a credit. Students are expected to carry a minimum of five credits each year.

All upper school students are required to enroll in the Communication class prior to graduation, preferably during their freshman or sophomore years. Participation in the extracurricular speech and debate team, while a positive means of reinforcing a student’s communication skills, is not a replacement for the broad-based skills presented in the formal Communication class.
