School Cancellations and Early Dismissal

When winter weather conditions necessitate a change in our schedule, we will announce the closing or delay on the home page of this Web site (www.kcd.org) and through our automated phone notification system. The announcement will also be carried by local radio and television stations). Please note that KCD does not necessarily follow the decision of Jefferson or Oldham County schools to close or delay school.

We recognize that snowy and icy conditions may vary from neighborhood to neighborhood. Even if KCD does not close, parents should make their own decision about traveling based on conditions in their own neighborhood and on local roadways. Students will not be penalized if parents keep them home or send them on a delayed schedule.

In the case of a night snowfall that is significant enough to snarl traffic but not severe enough to close all major roads, we will announce a delayed opening. Once school begins, your child must remain on campus until school closing unless you call with specific permission for him or her to leave.

In rare circumstances, it may be necessary to dismiss school early. The early dismissal will be posted on our Web site, and parents will be notified via our automated phone notification system. To ensure an orderly dismissal, please check the Web site for information and refrain from calling the school. Your child may, however, request that our office personnel reach you by phone.
