Amy Eady Spears KHS 1964

Amy Eady Spears

Ms. Amy Eady Spears has been a lifelong advocate for children and young women. Her commitment to serving the needs of others began with three hours of volunteer service on behalf of the Junior League of Louisville. Those first three hours have grown into a lifelong passion for reaching out to the most vulnerable members of our community.

Ms. Spears' passion for helping children and families has perhaps been most evident in her long association with The Home of the Innocents, a facility that provides housing and services for children who are homeless, abused, or terminally ill. Ms. Spears has been working with the Home for over 20 years. She has served on its board of directors since 1987 and as its board chair from 1991 to 1993. During that time, Ms. Spears was instrumental in guiding the Home through a period of modernization, expansion, and-as a member of the capital campaign and aesthetics committees -the recent transition to a beautiful new campus.

Ms. Spears has not confined her commitment to the Home of the Innocents. She served for 20 years as a patient educator at University Hospital, where she taught pre-natal classes for expectant mothers. She has also served on the board and is currently a director emeritus of the Child Welfare League of America.

Ms. Spears has also given generously of her time and talent in support of Kentucky Country Day School. During her tenure on KCD's board of directors, she was involved in efforts to modernize the school's technology and to raise money to build our current fine arts wing. Her three children-Amy, Powell, and George-all attended Kentucky Country Day.

In addition to her many other talents, Ms. Spears is also a published author. She wrote the text for the coffee table book Gardens of Kentucky, which was accompanied by photographs from KCD parent Dan Dry. Ms. Spears also lent her writing talents to a fair number of KCDate auction catalogs over the years, even after her children had graduated from the school.

In recognition of these and her many other outstanding accomplishments, Ms. Amy Eady Spears, Kentucky Home School Class of 1964, was inducted into the Kentucky Country Day School Hall of Fame on June 3, 2004.
