Owsley Brown Frazier

Owsley Brown Frazier has recently announced his plans to retire from his 45-year career at Brown Forman Corporation, during which time he rose from trainee to the position of vice chairman. We hope that Mr. Frazier’s retirement will not extend to his civic and philanthropic efforts, which have gained him a reputation in Louisville as a tireless worker on behalf of numerous business, civic, and charitable organizations. Over the last 25 years, Mr. Frazier has raised nearly a quarter of a billion dollars, primarily for educational institutions. He is currently involved with campaigns on behalf of Bellarmine College, the University of Louisville, and our own Kentucky Country Day School.

Mr. Frazier is a 1954 alumnus of Louisville Country Day School who went on to receive BSL and JD degrees from the University of Louisville. He is the father of 3 KCD graduates—Catherine Joy ’78, Laura Huneke ’79, and the late Annsley Thorton ’81—and the grandfather of eight current KCD students.

As Chairman of KCD’s Board of Trustees in the late ’70s, Mr. Frazier played an crucial role in bringing KCD to its current spacious campus—a decision that placed the school at the heart of what is now one of the fastest-growing sections of the county. As the Chairman of KCD’s current capital campaign, Mr. Frazier is once again leading KCD through an expansion and transformation that will position the school as the premier educational institution in the region.

Mr. Frazier’s other philanthropic efforts are almost too numerous to mention. To cite but a single example, while at Brown-Forman, he spearheaded a drive for corporate involvement in creating better housing, and the company’s Adopt-A-Neighborhood program has resulted in the total investment of more than $6.5 million for the rehabilitation of homes in low-income neighborhoods in Louisville.

Mr. Frazier’s other civic responsibilities include serving as an executive member of Greater Louisville, Inc., and the Kentucky Economic Development Corporation. He is also currently on the boards of the Cathedral Heritage Foundation, Sky Ranch Foundation, Jewish Hospital Healthcare Services, and Frazier Rehab Center.

In recognition of his outstanding accomplishments, Owsley Brown Frazier, Louisville Country Day Class of 1959, was inducted into the Kentucky Country Day School Hall of Fame on June 10, 2000.A.
