T. Kennedy Helm III LCD 1964
Mr. T. Kennedy Helm III is a 1964 graduate of Louisville Country Day and a 1968 graduate of Yale University, where he graduated cum laude. Mr. Helm received his M.A. from Indiana University and his J.D. from the University of Virginia, where he also served as Executive Editor of the Virginia Law Review. His daughter Mimi is a 1996 graduate of Kentucky Country Day School.
Mr. Helm has truly distinguished himself in his chosen field. Since 1997 he has served as Chairman of Stites & Harbison, one of the most distinguished legal firms in Louisville. Since 1998 he has served as lead counsel to the $780 million Louisville Airport Improvement Program, and for many years he also served as Chairman of Stites & Harbison’s Business Practice Section and as a Member of the Stites and Harbison Management Committee. He has published numerous articles and made numerous presentations on legal issues at national conventions.
Mr. Helm has also been an active leader in the Louisville community, where he has taken a leadership role in many of the city’s most prominent institutions. He has served as a member of the Louisville and Jefferson County Urban Renewal Commission and on the board of directors of the Louisville Museum of Natural History and Science, the Louisville Zoo Foundation, Greater Louisville, Inc., Presentation Academy, and the Japan America Society of Kentucky.
Those who know Mr. Helm know that in addition to his career, two of his other passions are golf and education. His devotion to the latter is amply demonstrated by his service as a member of the board of directors of Kentucky Country Day School. For ten years, from 1988–1998, Mr. Helm lent his wisdom and experience to this fine institution, helping to lead it through a campaign that drastically increased the school’s endowment and demonstrated its commitment to its most important resource: its teachers.
Mr. Helm’s commitment to education also demonstrated itself in his key role in helping to establish the Summerbridge program at KCD. Through his support of Summerbridge, which included four years as a member of its Advisory Board, Mr. Helm helped ensure the success of this important program that brings an academically rigorous program to the most at-risk members of our community.
In recognition of these outstanding examples of guidance and leadership of Kentucky Country Day School, on June 8, 2002, Mr. T. Kennedy Helm III was inducted into the Kentucky Country Day School Alumni Hall of Fame.
