Bernie Dahlem

Bernard A. Dahlem is a 1946 graduate of the Kentucky Military Institute. Mr. Dahlem received his Bachelor of Civil Engineering in 1951 and his Master of Engineering in 1972 from the University of Louisville. His life is marked by his service to his schools, his company, and his community.

Mr. Dahlem began his engineering career working with E.I. DuPont. He then served three years of active duty in the Civil Engineer Corps of the U.S. Navy. Following this experience, Mr. Dahlem joined his family’s construction company where he provided nearly fifty years of outstanding service and leadership.

Mr. Dahlem has had many civic interests. Board memberships have included the Louisville Chamber of Commerce and Actors Theatre, where he also served as President of the board.

He is a past president of Speed Scientific School Alumni Foundation. Mr. Dahlem continues to serve the University of Louisville as a member of its Board of Overseers. He has received the Speed School’s Professional Award for Engineering and was recognized for his career accomplishments with its Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1988. Mr. Dahlem was honored by the University with an honorary Doctor of Science degree in 1996.

Bernard A. Dahlem and his wife, the former Debby Blair, have four children, Karen Dahlem, Blair Dahlem Ivins, Charles Dahlem and James Dahlem. All four Dahlem children are alumni of Kentucky Country Day School.

In recognition of these and his many other outstanding accomplishments, I am pleased to induct Mr. Bernard A. Dahlem, Kentucky Military Institute Class of 1946, into the Kentucky Country Day School Hall of Fame.
