Baseball team is off to a hot start with All A win

The boys’ baseball team is on its way to one of their best seasons in school history, boasting a 15-3 record. The Bearcats are 6-1 against regional opponents and 1-0 in district play. One of the major highlights of the season is their 3-0 win over Whitefield in the All A Classic tournament. Junior Will Smith and senior Nick Gorman were major keys in the win as Smith pitched a complete game with ten strikeouts and Gorman gave the Bearcats the their first run as well as a huge momentum boost with a home run. The win over Whitefield sends them to semi-state next Wednesday against Desales. The winner of that game will get to participate in the state tournament at Whitaker Bank Park in Lexington. Congratulations Bearcats! The Bearcats’ next contest is today at Laineyville, Indiana at 5:30pm..

Ribbon cutting dedicates baseball renovations

On Saturday, KCD families joined the baseball team for a ribbon cutting celebrating our newly renovated baseball facility. The improvements include new dugouts and a new backstop as well as improved netting behind home plate and a windscreen along the outfield fence. All of these improvements create a better and safer atmosphere for both players and fans.

During the ceremony, Head of School Brad Lyman, Athletic Director Tim Green, and baseball coach Joe Maione offered their thanks to those who made the improvements possible. KCD parents Richard Klein, Todd Lyles, David Winkler, and Tom Eckert joined the team on the field during the dedication in recognition for their generous support and oversight of the construction project.

The next phase of the project includes plans for a new press box and concession stand. The Bearcats went on to win both games of a doubleheader against Moore High School.

Coach Maione wins 200 KCD career games!

With Saturday’s 4-3 victory over Bethlehem, Coach Maione reached a milestone of 200 wins coaching KCD's baseball team. Coach Maione joins an elite group of only two other KCD coaches to have reached this milestone: Val Vertrees (field hockey) and Kevin Sullivan (boys’ golf).

200 wins for Coach Maione!

Baseball construction project is under way

Visitors to the athletic fields on the south side of campus have probably noticed that new construction is under way on Patrick’s Field, the home of the KCD baseball team. The construction is phase one of a project that will replace the existing dugouts and backstop with new, in-ground dugouts, a block wall, and a professional-quality black netting backstop that will offer improved viewing for spectators.

Phase two of the project will include a new press box, a windscreen for the fence, and a new bullpen area for pitchers. Fundraising for this phase is currently ongoing.
