Volleyball team finishes regular season with three-game win streak

The very young varsity volleyball team has improved tremendously throughout the 2011 season while facing tough competition. The team lost six seniors from last year’s team, but the four returning players got some help from the ten new players who joined the squad this season. Throughout the season, the Bearcats have received compliments about their progress from fans, opposing coaches, and referees. The team finished the season with a three-game winning streak going into the district tournament, tying their longest streak of the year. During the streak, KCD defeated Fairdale, Kentucky School for the Deaf, and Valley.

Second-year coach Chrissy Gandolfo gave kudos to several team members for their play this season, including Jordyn Coan, Heather Todoroff, Anna Zappone, and Kennedi Hayes.

Coach Gandolfo stated, “We are especially proud of All-A Regional All Tournament Team members Cali Klink and Shelbi Hendricks. Shelbi also made the All District Team. These seniors provided outstanding leadership.”

Athletics now offering live web streams of select games

Athletic Director Tim Green has announced that the athletics program will offer live web streams of select varsity games this year.

The streams are being offered in partnership with the iHigh website, which will host the streams. Two games have been broadcast so far: the varsity football game at Shawnee last Friday and Tuesday's varsity field hockey game vs. Ballard. Between the two games, over 2,000 people watched the broadcasts.

The next scheduled broadcasts are Thursday's 6:30 volleyball game vs. Waggener and Friday's 7:15 football game at Atherton. Further broadcasts will be announced on the KCD website and on the Booster Club Facebook page. They are also posted on KCD's iHigh web page. Recordings of the games are available online for a week following their initial broadcast.
