Championship T-shirts
MS Soccer Families:
To clarify: ANY family is welcome to order championship shirts. EVERY player in the program contributed to the sweep of the tournament.
If you would, please shoot me a quick email if you plan to order, so we can get a sense of how many shirts Scott will be printing. If you could just let me know how many you would like, you can then send me the order form (attached) anytime.

Middle school soccer sweeps tournament
Congratulations to KCD’s middle school soccer teams, who swept all three divisions of the St. Francis LISC tournament last week. This is the second straight year that KCD has swept the tournament.
The C team won a hard-fought match against Collegiate to bring home the Bronze Division trophy. The B team battled an Evangel team stacked with eighth graders to take the Silver Division title. The A team cruised to an easy win over Christian Academy of Indiana, scoring seven goals on their way to victory.
A standout group of eighth graders will be missed next season, but with a strong influx of talent in this year's fifth grade class, the future looks bright for KCD middle school soccer!
Indoor and Off-season
MS Soccer Families:
You have now had one full week day off soccer completely...FAR too long for me!
Many of you have asked about options for off-season soccer. For the next few months, all the options will be indoors. In my experience, the best place to play indoors is at Mockingbird Valley Soccer Club. They have a beautiful facility, and they work hard to maintain a high-quality recreational soccer program.
The coaching is solid, but to be honest in rec soccer you are basically going to get a space to practice once a week, one game a week on a Saturday or Sunday, and someone who will sub players in and out fairly. It is great practice, though, and indoor soccer is in some ways even more physically demanding than outdoor. A smaller field means faster-paced games with more touches and NO time to rest on the field.
I have spoken with Mockingbird, and they are willing to help us coordinate players on teams, IF the schedule works out. There are many options, and they are based on what night you practice.
They told me that right now in the 10-11 age group they have the most openings on Tuesdays at 5:00 or Mondays at 6:00. There are a few openings elsewhere, but this is where we could best have players on the same team. For the 12-13 age group, Tuesdays at 5:00 are is the ONLY real option at this point. If you are interested in this, call Mockingbird at 896-2412 for more info.
When you register be sure to stress that you wish to be placed on a team with KCD players if possible. You may even request specific friends, and they'll sometimes honor that.
I am not able to coordinate all of this, so you guys as parents will have to talk amongst yourselves and figure out who is playing when. Feel free to use the e-mail list to find people and communicate.
Beyond Mockingbird winter sessions, there is always the option of one-on-one training. I mentioned earlier that I have a great name for you if you're interested in that--just let me know.
Beyond winter, we will look at scheduling some spring training sessions and friendly matches for all those interested in working out in the spring.
If your child is REALLY serious about soccer, I can provide you with some insight into the club (travel) level teams in the area. Just let me know if this is something that your family wants to pursue. Club soccer is only suited to the child (and family) passionate about the game, wanting to play in high school and perhaps even beyond.
There are a LOT of options out there, and if I can help you I certainly will. I know plenty of these kids are already into winter sports, and that alone will be wonderful cross-training for next year. Let me know if you need any information or ideas from me. ~Clark
Uniforms
MS Soccer Families:
Please send me clean uniforms ASAP. Your child may drop them by my room anytime this week. We will be purchasing NEW uniforms for next season, but we will use these as back ups.
PLEASE ENSURE YOU SEND ME
1.) BOTH JERSEYS (BLUE AND WHITE)
2.) BLUE UNIFORM SHORTS
If your child shared a uniform or had an incomplete set, I already have record of that--no need to explain. ~Clark
Tournament games
MS Soccer Families:
Adding the new team has understandably caused some level of confusion, I think. I wanted to clarify:
TODAY:
Bronze Division team (select 5th and 6th graders) plays at 4:15 at Collegiate SCHOOL on Glenmary Road (not the fields off 264).
Silver Division team (select 5th, 6th, and 7th graders) plays at 5:30 at St. Francis school in Goshen.
Gold team DOES NOT PLAY TODAY
Tomorrow:
Gold Division team (select 7th and ALL 8th graders) plays at 4:15 at St. Francis school in Goshen
Silver Division team MIGHT play (only if they win today) at 5:30 at St. Francis school in Goshen
Bronze teams DO NOT PLAY ON WEDNESDAY
Uniforms:
To reiterate Coach Cawood's instructions: please wear BLUE but PLEASE BRING BOTH UNIFORMS TO ALL TOURNAMENT GAMES!
THERE IS A STRONG POSSIBILITY THAT WE WILL BE ASKED TO CHANGE SHIRTS AT SOME POINT DURING THE TOURNAMENT.

MS Soccer: The Week Ahead 10/3/11
MS Soccer Families:
This is our final week of regular-season soccer before the tournament begins next week! Let's go get 3 wins, practice hard on Thursday, and be ready to roll early next week!
Tournament: All teams will play in the tournament: We WILL be entering two B teams, as well as our A and C teams. This will allow everyone on the B team to get MANY more minutes on the field. Some 7th grade A players will play B as well, to allow them more game minutes.
I will send rosters out later this week. As soon as I receive ANY information on tournament pairings or times, I will send it immediately. The tournament is played at St. Francis in Goshen, so we have no control over when they get organized enough to get us info. I promise that you will know as soon as I do. As of today, nothing is out.
A reminder that, per KCD policy, we play tournaments to win. This will affect playing time for everyone, even with the added team.
There are three divisions in the tournament: gold, silver, and bronze. The A team will play in the gold division, one B will play silver, and both the second B and C teams will play in the bronze.
Here is a look at the week ahead:
Monday 10/3: FALL BREAK
Tuesday 10/4: A team AWAY GAME vs. Whitefield at 5:00 (see KCD website for directions)
B team AWAY GAME vs. Whitefield at 6:00
Wednesday 10/5: B team HOME GAME 5:30 vs The Lexington School. Please make arrangements for B team players to leave school and get some work done/rest/a snack between 3:05 and 5:00. If you cannot, players should spend that time in the after-school room.
Thursday 10/6: Practice for all teams 3:30-5:00.
Friday 10/7: DAY OFF (Coach Pollitt will be in Washington DC with the 8th grade and Coach Cawood has to work)
Personal Soccer Training
MS Soccer Families:
Several folks have asked me about where the best place would be to find some individual soccer instruction for their kids. Coach Bell and I both coach at Javanon Soccer Club, and there are several professional coaches there at the club that do private session training.
My son trains with Rusty McIntosh, and I would highly recommend him. Rusty has coached multiple club teams to state championships, and he really does a fantastic job of both connecting with kids and pushing them to do more than they thought they could. He has coached at both Mockingbird and Javanon, and he's pretty universally valued as one of the best in town. If you would like Rusty's information, let me know.
Coach Bell also plans to offer some personal training to MS players in the coming months, and I'll send information on that as soon as it is finalized.
There are many options out there for personal training, and I would definitely love to see our kids working in the off season to improve both their soccer skills and overall athleticism.
